David Mullins
Last 20 Years: After High School I tried college but found out that it was not for me…at that time in my life, so I joined the US Navy. I went active duty September 1, 1987. I received excellent training in the field of advanced electronics and radio communications. After completing two years of advance training I was transfer to San Diego California to serve on board the USS Gurnard (SSN-662) as a Radioman 3rd class. I spent the next fours years with this command and while there I traveled the world to see its many wonders. While my submarine was surfaced at the North Poll I ran around the world, it took less than 5 minutes. We continued that mission by completing the circle by going through the Panama Canal and circumnavigating the North American continent. I also went to Japan, Korea, Philippians, Guam, and other places that can't be discussed. In 1993 I left the Navy after six years of fun and excitement as a Radioman 2nd Class/Submarine Warfare Qualified (RM2/SS). I lived in Seattle Washington for about six months before moving back to San Antonio. I have been working in the medical industry for the past 10 years doing various jobs from medical administration to medical research. I started back to school in 1998 and have been there ever since. I thought I would be finished by now but I met someone very special to me and wanted to settle down and start a little family. After returning from studying abroad in Russia, Shannon and I started to see more of each other and well we got married on March 13, 1999. I not only gained a lover but a best friend as well. I also gained a son (Dakota) who I love dearly. On March 14th 2000 I lost my mother to cancer and in Jun I gained a new son who we named Alonzo after my grandfather. In 2001 Shannon and I decided to have another child and in September Colin was brought in to this world. Shannon and I decided that it was best if one of us stay home with the kids. Since she was not all that satisfied teaching, we decided that she would stay home to care for the two little ones (Dakota was in school already). In the spring of 2003 I graduated with an AAS in computer programming. Early in 2004 we decided to have one more child (hoping of course for a girl). On October 19th Shannon and I received our newest edition to our family, Grayson. In August 2005 I received my Associate of Arts in Business Administration. I worked as a web developer (contractor) for the US Air Force until I took a job with the United States Department of State Foreign Service. I will be graduating from Texas A&M Kingsville in August 2006. My family and I will be leaving on our next adventure to Jakarta Indonesia at the end of August and will be there for the next two years. After that, who knows….China, Russia, or maybe somewhere in Africa. I believe that a person never stops learning and when they do, they stop living. I am grateful for my family, friends, and my life. There is nothing I would change.
